Volunteer Position: Support Group Assistant (Mentee)

Position Overview:

Key Responsibilities:
  • Logistics Coordination: Ensure the timely procurement and delivery of refreshments (e.g., pizza and salad) for each support group meeting.
  • Financial Management: Handle cash payments responsibly for room bookings and other necessary expenditures related to the support group activities.
  • Room Setup: Arrange the meeting space prior to each session, setting up chairs, tables, and refreshment areas to create a welcoming and comfortable environment for participants.
  • Assistance During Sessions: Provide support during the meetings under the supervision of trained facilitators, which may include helping with registration, distributing materials, and ensuring a smooth flow of the session.
  • Feedback Collection: Assist in gathering feedback from participants to help improve the support group experience.
Training and Support:
  • Initial orientation to NAMI Kauai’s operations and support group protocols.
  • Ongoing mentorship with experienced group facilitators.
  • Opportunity to attend NAMI facilitator training sessions when available.

Volunteer Position: Social Media Manager

Organization: NAMI Kauai

Location: Remote (with preference given to residents of Kauai)

Position Overview:
NAMI Kauai is seeking an enthusiastic and creative volunteer Social Media Manager to oversee our digital communication efforts. This role involves crafting and managing posts across various social media platforms to increase awareness, engagement, and support for mental health initiatives. The ideal candidate is passionate about mental health advocacy and has a knack for digital communication.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Content Creation: Develop and schedule engaging content that aligns with NAMI Kauai’s mission and objectives. This includes flyers, posts, graphics, and videos that educate, inspire, and mobilize our community.
  • Platform Management: Maintain active and consistent presence on our social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.), ensuring timely responses to comments and messages.
  • Analytics Monitoring: Track and report on social media engagement metrics (likes, shares, comments, etc.), using insights to refine and improve strategy.
  • Campaign Coordination: Collaborate with the NAMI Kauai team to design and implement social media campaigns for special events, awareness months, and fundraising efforts.
  • Community Engagement: Build and sustain an online community by fostering interactive and supportive dialogues, sharing relevant resources, and highlighting community stories and successes.
Requirements:
  • Strong understanding of and experience with social media platforms and analytics tools.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, with an ability to adapt messages to diverse audiences.
  • Creative mindset with experience in graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Photoshop) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of mental health issues and sensitivity to the challenges faced by those affected by mental illness.
  • Ability to commit to a regular posting schedule and be proactive in content planning.
Training and Support:
  • Orientation to NAMI Kauai’s mission, vision, and ongoing projects.
  • Guidance and ongoing support from the communications team and other NAMI Kauai staff.
Commitment:
  • This is a volunteer position requiring approximately 5 hours per week.
  • A minimum commitment of 6 months is preferred to ensure continuity and impact.

Position Overview:
NAMI Kauai seeks a proactive and community-oriented volunteer to serve as our Community Outreach Coordinator. This role is vital in enhancing our visibility and engagement within local jail, courthouse. and other community places. The ideal candidate is personable, reliable, and deeply committed to mental health advocacy.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Distribute Information: Regularly deliver and replenish informational materials such as flyers and brochures at designated locations within jail, courthouse & other community locations.
  • Relationship Building: Establish and maintain positive relationships with staff and administrators at each site to ensure ongoing cooperation and presence.
  • Visibility: Act as a face of NAMI Kauai during visits, engaging with staff and occasionally the public to raise awareness about our services and the importance of mental health support.
  • Feedback Collection: Gather insights and feedback from site visits to better tailor our outreach efforts and materials to the needs of the community.
  • Event Participation: Occasionally represent NAMI Kauai at local events, providing information and support to the community.
Requirements:
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism in various settings, including sensitive environments like jails.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage schedules and maintain regular site visits.
  • A commitment to the principles of mental health advocacy and a respectful approach to all community members.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
Training and Support:
  • Comprehensive orientation covering NAMI Kauai’s goals, services, and community partners.
  • Ongoing support and guidance from the volunteer coordinator and other NAMI Kauai staff.
  • Regular updates and additional training as needed.
Commitment:
  • This volunteer role requires a commitment of 4-6 hours per week.
  • Minimum commitment of one year to ensure continuity and effectiveness in outreach efforts.
