What is NAMI?

NAMI is the National Alliance on Mental illness, the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. NAMI advocates for access to services and treatment, and provides essential and free education, advocacy and support group programs.
NAMI Kauai is an affiliate of NAMI Hawaii, with a network of volunteers who work in the community to raise awareness and try to end the stigma around mental illness. We educate families who have loved ones who live with the mental illness. We provide the signature NAMI Family-2-Family educational program, and Family-2-Family support groups are currently being formed on Kauai. As NAMI Kauai grows we will offer “consumer” education and support groups.
Mental illness affects everyone. Nearly 60 million Americans experience a mental health condition every year. Regardless of race, age, religion or economic status, mental illness impacts the lives of at least one in four adults and one in 10 children across the United States.
TOGETHER WE CAN END THE STIGMA and help families understand what their loved one is going through.
